My Experience - BERSIH 2.0

Greetings.

Initially, my intention of going to this rally is just to gain an insight as to what life as a photojournalist might be like. I most definitely got more than I bargained for.

Before I begin, here is a quick insight into what BERSIH 2.0 is about for those who are ignorant, those who said the rally is plain stupid, believers of the ruling party's conspiracy theories and well technically all those who are IGNORANT.

The Bersih 2.0 rally (also called the Walk for Democracy) was a demonstration in Kuala Lumpur held on 9 July 2011 as a follow-up to the 2007 Bersih rally. The rally, organised by the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih), was supported by Pakatan Rakyat, the coalition of the three largest opposition parties in Malaysia, but was deemed illegal by the government. Bersih, chaired by former president of the Bar Council Ambiga Sreenevasan, were pushing the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) to ensure free and fair elections in Malaysia. It demanded that the EC clean up the electoral roll, reform postal voting, use indelible ink, introduce a minimum 21-day campaign period, allow all parties free access to the media, and put an end to electoral fraud.

I started my journey from home and took a bus hoping that it would stop at KL Sentral monorail as announced by several websites online. This however was not the case. The entire traffic in Old Klang Road were redirected to Seremban Highway. Not even Mid Valley was accessible. Undeterred, I walked to the nearest KTM station and took the rail until KL Sentral and started my walk to Stadium Merdeka. During my journey I documented the entirely empty streets of Kuala Lumpur (which is always congested and extremely busy). I started following the crowd from the Pasar Seni LRT station and was a bit baffled at why they were not walking towards Stadium Merdeka.

So I followed the moving flow of bodies from Petaling street to Jalan Pudu. After taking several pictures, chaos ensued. Chaos that was provoked by the riot police and the FRU.

(In my pictures you will note that there is at least a 400 meter gap in between the ralliers and the law enforcement units, and non of the ralliers were anywhere near them or even provoked them)

What I saw was ralliers just walking and mingling. I was looking into my viewfinder to get the next shot when I heard a series of firearms discharged. I looked towards the FRU side and saw tear gas canisters flying towards the general area where I was standing. In a detached side of my mind I was thinking "I guess I'm about to find out what it feels like" while watching the canisters continue on their arc towards the masses.

Two realizations hit me as I watched the canisters land around me. The first was "Run fool run!!" and the second was "This is unprovoked! I'll never forgive myself if I didn't get a shot of this". And so I ran towards the riot police while the thousands behind me ran in the opposite direction

(Must have been quite a sight to see a lone figure in white holding a camera with a ponytail and a slouch hat run towards the police through the tear gas. Hope someone has a picture, but I doubt it hahaha).

During my sprint I switched my lens to my trusty 80-200mm lens while scrunching up my nose in a effort to try and not breathe in the stinging fumes with tears welling up in my eyes. I lined up my camera and got ready to photograph the moment they fired the second wave of gas canisters.

It started raining heavily out of nowhere and I thanked God for the rain even as I got drenched along with my camera, for it extinguished the gas canisters and provided some relief for my eyes. It was then I decided to "field test" the weather seals on my camera and thus remained unsheltered to get off some quick shots. Glad to say my camera held up against the elements. (PENTAX for the win!) I stayed around a little longer taking some more shots until the FRU and riot police moved to another location.

Still baffled as to why the ralliers did not march to Stadium Merdeka, I decided to make my way there. Along the way people asked me what happened and some friendly people even offered me the plastic bags they were using to shelter their head to protect my camera (Bless them). I actually had my own plastic bag prepared in my pocket but didn't want to waste time wrapping my camera in case I miss an important moment.

The truth of the matter was made clear when I reached the stadium. Despite the approval from the Agong that BERSIH may use the stadium as a rallying point, the police had cordoned off the road and placed barb wires to block ralliers. Water canons and more riot police were standing by behind the wires. After a few shots, I went up to the pedestrian bridge to try and get a better shot. I was so lucky that I decided to move from where I was to the pedestrian bridge. Once again I thanked God as the area I was standing a minute before was fired upon by the water canon. However well my camera had held up against the rain, I'd rather not test its resilience against a water canon. The short spray by the water canon provided the BERSIH ralliers with amusement as instead of hitting the ralliers, it was a friendly fire towards the police on the front lines.Cheers and claps erupted from the BERSIH crowd as we watched the police get a taste of their own medicine.

As I moved down from the pedestrian bridge to ground level, National Laureate Mr. A. Samad Said, also known as Pak Samad made his appearance. Resplendent in a yellow BERSIH 2.0 shirt, this fearless author made his way to the front with chanting and cheering from the BERSIH crowd to negotiate with the police. As time passed more and more key figures showed up. At one point the entire crowd in front of Stadium Merdeka started singing our National Anthem. Just the sight and singing along with fellow countrymen gave me goosebumps. As time passed more and more key figures showed up and the isolated BERSIH groups from other parts of KL finally arrived at Stadium. There was a massive march from them from Petaling Street.

The key figures gave speeches in turn. The last speaker even said a prayer for the benefit of the muslim people and it was he who said this -

"We promised the Agong that we will assemble here until 4pm. Lets show the country that we of BERSIH keep to our promises and disperse at 4pm. Agreed?"

The crowd roared their approval, cheers and applause erupted again. It was then I started to make my way towards the Kuala Lumpur KTM station. Another atrocious event happened at that venue. People dispersing and making their way home after the rally were fired upon with tear gas by the riot police. The riot police are evidently trigger happy gangsters in uniform. Nothing more.

As all can see, this was a peaceful march. It wasn't BERSIH who made the roads close. It wasn't BERSIH who provoked attacks. This wasn't an uprising. BERSIH is, was and will be the citizens of this country exercising our constitutional right to assemble and ask for FAIR ELECTIONS. Why is the ruling party so paranoid? If they truly have nothing to lose then why not submit to demands of fair elections instead of resulting to police brutality and spreading lies on the local media? 15 years ago ignorant or ill informed citizens would have believed these lies. This day, the internet is wide spread and information, pictures and videos are easily obtained. The rakyat can see and judge for themselves now.

Unity.

907 will be the day I always remember. Not because of the police brutality. That is just a small stain on a bigger picture. But because 50 000 over Malaysians regardless of race, religion, language and beliefs gathered together in solidarity for a common cause. We marched together, joined hands, helped each other out when attacked, giving each other hearty slaps on the backs and shaking hands with each other. And despite unprovoked attacks from the police we did not retaliate. I'm proud to have walked beside all of you and sang the National Anthem with all of you. As I have said at the beginning of this post, my initial aim is the just get an insight into life as a photojournalist. But the ensuing events thereafter and witnessing many acts of unity amongst the people has cemented my resolve to be a part of BERSIH. In its own way BERSIH is so much more effective than 1Malaysia.

This post is typed in yellow in tribute to all those who I've stood beside, those who endured the brutality of the police and especially to the late great Baharuddin Ahmad. A true hero of BERSIH 2.0. You will not be forgotten. Justice for your untimely demise will be demanded.

50 reason not to date a Graphic Designer. (with some of my own thoughts and commentary)

1. They are very weird people. Those who have known me can testify to this hahaha!
2. There are billions of them in the world, like colors on the screen of your computer. Definitely. We're here to take over the world
3. They will analyse conversations in layers. I analyze everything!
4. You will spend the day assembling furniture from IKEA. Well so far not my own, but the ones my family buys
5. They drink and eat all kinds of weird shit just because they like the packaging. Indeed.
6. They hate each other. Only if we disagree violently :D
7. You’ll come out the last out of the movies because you have to see the full list of credits. Maybe~ ok fine half the credits O:
8. They cant change a light bulb or without making a sketch. Nah... I'd just rather change the light bulb and get it over with
9. They fuck up all the tables with their cutters. Oh yes indeed. Not just tables, anything that has a flat surface is not safe from us.
10. They rather study the paisley pattern on your outfit than listen to what you have to say. Take it as a way we avoid retorting with a particularly sarcastic remark.
11. They will fill your house with magazines and whatever is out there that has drawings. So far they are all only in my room. But they may soon encroach out and take over the house.
12. You never know if it is really an original or a copy.
13. They make collages with your photos. Hasn't occurred to me to do that yet. But the idea is appealing.
14. They do not know how to add and subtract, they just understand letters. Guilty as charged.
15. They idolize people who nobody knows and speak of them as if they were his colleagues. Indeed.
16. They take pictures almost daily and all are cut in weird shapes. Yeap I have a hot finger behind the camera but I mostly like to keep my photos intact.
17. They ask your opinion about everything but they do whatever they want. Hell yeahhhhhh
18. Everything is left justified, right or center unless they arrive late. Abit unfortunate for me since tardiness is one of my inherent traits.
19. They hate Comic Sans with the same passion they love Helvetica. HAHAHAHAHA!
20. They use iPhone for everything, because everyone has one.
21. You can not decorate the house without consulting them. Ah well is not my house now but yeah stay out of my room.
22. They steal street signs. The thought has definitely occurred to me plenty a time even before I read this list but have yet to commit the act :D
23. Always carry their hands painted with something. Nahhh not me...
24. They buy dolls unfinished for them to paint. Just like stealing street signs. It did seemed appealing. But I have yet to do something like that.
25. Everything becomes something other than what it really is: cards as tickets, cards as … Yes. Inherent creativity does that eh?
26. When arguing, you will be nicknamed like the OSX spinning wheel (not affectionately) LOL!
27. Do not know how to dress without consulting the Pantone book. Well I have no idea what the Pantone book is but yes general looks of appraisal from the public always suggests that I do not know how to dress. But of course I'm left handed and we're known to dress for comfort rather than style.
28. They hate Excel. Ewwwwwwwwww...... Hate with passion I might add
29. They read comics. Mmmmhmmmmm
30. They want to save the world only with a poster. An award-winning poster I might add.
31. You will spend the day brainstorming. Only when the time calls for it.
32. On vacation they will take you to countries that you do not know exist and have no beach. Nawww I love beaches but yeah I'll most probably go to an obscure country.
33. Museums are their second home. Nahhh... not for me
34. They know more positions than the Kamasutra. LOL now I don't know about that, only a few can testify and non willing to hahaha
35. They can’t go to a restaurant without secretly critiquing the menu design. Yes every single time.
36. They listen to music you have never heard of. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA oh yess.
37. They can´t cook a normal dish, they always have to experiment with new ingredients. Which is why aunty tries to keep me out of the kitchen.
38. They read rare books: stories of children, Semiotics … Now is that a bad thing?
39. When you are going to tell you something, everyone has read it in their facebook and twitter.
40. They have own iPods before you knew they existed. Not true
41. The orgasm they remember is when they heard that Adobe was acquiring Macromedia. Well macromedia was sucky until Adobe gave them a new pair of wings.
42. They have their own shops just for them and there are the most expensive in the city. Ah yes.... art shops..
43. They want to spend all the money in the Apple Store. Oh yes I so want to....
44. You will never understand their gifts. Yeap many a time I received an incredulous look to what I thought was a perfectly understandable gift hahahaha
45. They see ordinary objects and laugh. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA -refer to no.1-
46. You wake up in the middle of the night hearing them screaming “When is the deadline?” Oh yess... our personal nightmares forced upon us by faceless clients that wait behind our eye-lids every night preparing to give us a "good nights" sleep
47. They see CMYK and RGB like Neo sees the Matrix. LOL I never thought of it that way. But yeahhh...
48. They dream of the day nobody will make a single change to their designs. Ah... when will that much vaunted day come?
49. They rather pay for a font than for a special birthday gift. So far.. I've yet to pay for a font :D
50. They are always sleepy because they work 24/7. Eyebags are our legacy.

So yeah folks. 50 really good reasons why I'm still single.

But so much more like "50 traits of graphic designers" Hope this has been an enjoyable read up.

Recent project - Kuala Lumpur in Black and White

One of my recent photography outing along with my fellow classmates Ah Liang and Jian Seng.
Though I've taken pictures of Kuala Lumpur many a time, this time is quite different. Aside from the usual skyscrapers, I decided to focus more on the denizens of the city instead. I forgoed my DSLR for this little excursion and settled for a compact Panasonic Lumix instead while I loaned my DSLR to Ah Liang in hopes that he'll get the hang of operating one before he purchases one for himself.

2010 A year of tears rather than smiles or triumphs (for me anyways) this is the year I'll always remember as the worse year I've ever had. Hurdles and hurdles of shit piled 6 foot high for me to jump over and nothing to look forward to and those piles of shit just kept on coming. But hey its going to be 2011 in a few hours and that only means the finishing line is in sight and the podium to the medal is not far away.

Of course there are the "special" few that I'd love to thank for making this year such a bitch. Go figure. But I really meant that I really want to thank you, simply because..

What doesn't kill me only makes me stronger.

I'm not gonna name anyone but you have my thanks. You should feel proud. Its not everyday somebody thanks you for being an asshole :D

While this wasn't quite a memorable year but there were a few things that happened here and there that brought happiness to me. I will list these things down because these are the things I would very much like to remember. The very shiny silver linings of the endless vast gray clouds that haunted the year 2010 for me.

College
While it wasn't all honeymoon and fun, I met a lot of new awesome friends here at TARC. Chief among them is Horng Liang haha brother you're the only one thick faced enough to withstand my verbal lashing and still hangout with me through out these 2 semesters. Group works with you are easy because I know I can count on you to get something done and you know how to ask me questions when you don't understand something related to the assignment (although I've always never given you a straight answer or teased you for not listening in class). While I was leader in most of the assignments, you were the pillar there who held the group together making sure everyone is doing what they should be doing. Bro I'm sorry that I have always unknowingly dragged you into my conflicts until you always become the innocent victim hahahaha.

Khuat Seng Fatt. You have an unhealthy obsession with my fishes particularly my white koi. While I was never close to you during the 1st semester, I believe we both found out we can be psycho together during the 2nd sem haha good times with the "spoon". It was a pleasure to have worked with you on our Understanding Type final assignment.

Lee Rou Wei. Small girl that drives a small car with a big smile on the face. The final assignment wouldn't be as nice as it is if you weren't in our group haha you're the hardest working one amongst all of us. Props to you. Keep on smiling, stay awesome.

Low Teck Soon. I hate you. Because everytime you play basketball with me I cannot be point guard LOL. Kanasai arh berani engkau curi posisi aku dekat gelanggang bola keranjang! All in all the funniest guy in class.

Low June Binn. I hate you also. Because every time you to drive to the basket I always get injured haha. And when I want to drive to the basket, you're always there to make sure I don't score. But when we're on the same team you're an awesome teammate.

Siang Lin. D1 tall fella! 1st time I play basketball against you damn unfair lor. You and Kar Hong vs me and Jeff walao cheating sia hahaha but still I can score :P. I know you admire my hair wakakaka.

Jeff. Always the technical expert in class. One of the few I can relate with in terms of music and interests. Want any latest news can just ask this guy here lol.

Ms. Pauline. Nah teacher how could I forget the lecturer which I gave a hard time to :D I've thoroughly enjoyed your class hehehe. While I wasn't the model student but you know that having a student like me is "refreshing" from the normal routine. Best thing I can remember is that I can make you laugh until you wont even want to look at me but just mutter empty threats to cut my hair hahahaha. Yes I'm a horrible student but you know you've enjoyed teaching the crazy one. Wait CNY I will bring the D2 gang to your house and collect angpaos :D

And of course the rest of CGD1 - D2 I haven't forgotten you just not much to say. Hope you guys enjoyed me as you classmate as much as I've enjoyed being yours. 2 more semesters for you guys to see my face hehehe.

And those peeps I know I can count on. In no particular order :D

James. You black and white son of a gun! haha bros since 1997 while you are always blur and always a big lummox you're a good friend to have around. You have the thickest skin and toughest skull to have withstand me for almost 14 years haha.

Wei Ken. Always the youngest one there. Knew you back from the BB days bro haha. Always my partner in crime as well. Always enjoyed the times when we were making fun of James. Take care in Singapore, see you during CNY.

Kevin Ng. Coach Anzai! nyahahaha biggest buddy around. Always the emo one xD. Always nice to hangout with you. Despite your size I'm always amazed at the amount you can eat haha. Later we have a date with bottles of beers hahaha.

Alicia Voon. Hah the person that will keep me company when I need somebody to turn to. Awesome friend but will always try to contradict me lol. And I'm 15 :D

Xiao-Ly. Future pastry taukei! Hahaha. Been a pleasure to shoot your pastry and eating them after haha. Your pastry photoshoot has expanded my personal portfolio into the food industry as well so I have you to thank. Don't worry your pastries are delicious, you'll be that taukei for sure!

Michelle Choo. Ini Bro or bimbo? (who else would have an IGN of DivaChoo? LOL) haha Thanks again for the AWESOME HAT! You're a nice person to talk to and nice to hangout with also. But wanna ajak you ah susah betul. I think got better chance of winning Toto ah. Maybe me and Kevin will just show up in front of your house unannounced and force you out like that day we go sing k hahahahaha terror betul. Time is running out for you mich! The land down under is calling already haha and remember that little bet me and Kevin have against you.

Sanjay. Bro! Its been a long way man since year 2000. Basketball, photography and rock and roll! Enjoyed the late night shishas, late night basketball, photography excursions, making fun of people. Had a good laugh last night with your "spelling" test with a stoned Justin. Great to have you as my teammate during the old boys games, or better known between you and me as the thrashing of 3rdKL's 2010 basketball team. Good times.

Kok Yau. Ini satu lagi bro back from the BB days haha. Also basketball, late night mamaks, photography and maple lol. You're the most nicest person I've ever known haha stay awesome!

Hiro. Only met you this year, but enjoyed your company immensely. I know if I ever need advice I'll know who to turn to. Truly a person I can turn to during dark days.

And of course a host of many others. Just because you're not mentioned doesn't mean you are forgotten you are all appreciated. I always remember.

Win! Victory. One of the best competition I've ever played so far. Not because we win its because I reunited with my old team minus Kan Huey Ding lmao (Don't worry Ding it was nothing we couldn't handle). Teamwork is still there despite not playing for together for a long long long time. To our opponents, you put up a good fight but didn't give us a good run for our money. I guess when it comes down to it, experience determines the outcome. You get an 'A' for effort and see you again next year ;) keep on practicin'. I had to switch from Point Guard to Power Forward position because in the 3 years we never played together I grew taller than someone hahaha (sorry Yau I had to say it xD)

Dear Anderson Ang and Jeffrey Leong you will be missed in Taman Desa. Anderson at least you're still in Malaysia lmao see you in 3 months. To Jeff take care dude hope to see you this December. Remember our business deal arh open mamak in UK hahaha.

I believe my auntie has gotten a wakeup call. Why did I say that? Well as usual during family gatherings uncles and aunties will be talking around about how good their child is or how amazing their achievements are and bla bla bla... but I never attend these gatherings because for one, their not my actual family even though I'd rather call my aunt and uncle as mom and dad I still don't have that sense of belonging to a family (Yes even if I've already lived here for 20 years). And secondly I grew up in the shadow of auntie's daughter and son both graduated overseas and were like model students. Then came along me with only talent in words, sports and music not the type of child any traditional minded parent/guardian would want. And because of this I've always been looked down on, always getting compared to her son and daughter. Whatever I achieved in sports, music, drill, debates etc. etc. were nothing to my auntie and uncle (not even those in National and International levels).

They both always had no confidence in me and so had nothing to say about me during their family gatherings except how lazy I am or how many subjects I flunked. Every medal and trophy I practiced hard and achieved was just so that you could give me a drop of recognition. But I guess now they know that I made it quite far not letting anything stop me till I've gotten what I wanted. Yes I didn't do well in SPM and yes dear uncle I didn't want to study to become a mechanic or real estate even though you generously offered to pay my studies for only those 2 courses. But I took up your challenge and I went to work to put myself into tertiary education. Even though you still disagree that photojournalism / military journalism can get me anywhere I'll still be doing it. I'll do what I love for a living and won't end up as a failure like my parents.

But now recently you both finally realized where my talent lies in and hearing you talk of me proudly as if a blood son. Seeing how you said you saw your niece's photography after seeing mine you said it looked like she had no standard and how you argued with your church friend that I can design a better front page for a booklet despite her saying that the other guy is 30+ years old and a damn good designer and asking whether I won my basketball competitions when I got home (something that has never happened before), You both may not know it and I don't show it but it means the universe to me. Finally... I get recognition by the 2 people I love most in this world. I am at peace. What I've been yearning for has been earned :)

Lost! I freaking lost the tourney... :( The last time I won a Basketball tournament was back in 2008. 2 freaking years ago.. along with Sanjay, Kok Yau, Chee Keong, Faisal, Justin and Captain Ding hahaha.

2008 also happened to be my last tournament before last Saturday. It seems 2 years out of the scene has taken a toll on me. I've rusted a whole lot. Ah... crap... get back in shape Kent! You have one more coming this Saturday. This is win or die! Gold or nothing! Hammer it into my mind... I'm second to NO ONE!

On a better note... semester coming to an end~ woohoo! Been through alot just to get past this 1st semester from waking up at odd hours just to keep up with assignment datelines to uncooperative group mates during group assignments. Once again... this is to all them "leechers" out there. You are pukes. You are the lowest form of life on earth. You're not even human-fucking-beings. You are nothing but unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shit.

We're all pretty much in holiday mood now since we have all pretty much handed in almost all our final assignments. Last one to hand in tomorrow and then its MERDEKA! Except for those who need to work hard and score high for Reading and Writing exam next Wednesday. Good luck. Confused about anything please do ask me. I'll be here to share my knowledge :).

Final assignments all commenced, freaking hectic. Already finished and handed in Graphic Design Basic's final assignment. Hence no more classes for Graphic Design Basic.

And goodbye to Mr. Razif Hashim our Graphic Design Basic lecturer. Its been nice to have you to teach me GDB you're the best lecturer I had so far hehehe. Thanks for the ride on your awesome chopper :D See you around.

Stained glass at church

Signed up for Photography society and Catholic society today. Started raining right after I signed up and was about to head home -_-" Luckily I decided not to play ball. Bleh headed over to the canteen to grab some chow instead. Was still drizzling after I had devoured my lunch. Walked to the LRT station anyways.

1 thing about commuting.. The LRT is like a freaking freezer in the morning. My eyeballs could actually freeze up, pop-out and roll around on the floor like marbles lol. But once you get off at the station its freaking hot. So hot that my eyeballs could melt and become jelly which I'll spread over bread and munch it down as breakfast RAWR! And bus U72 is a bitch to wait for. So called "every 15 minutes will arrive" bus fails. Please RapidKL add in 2 more buses for the U72 route.

Student support workshop tomorrow 10am - 4 pm with 2 hour break in between. Should I bring a basketball to fill in time or a book? Or maybe continually stuff myself with food for 2 hours lol. Skipping Games and Telematch session on friday. Gonna catchup on some much needed snoozing.

Ah right. I'm looking for a 2nd-hand laptop reasonable priced and average specs. Nothing specific. Just need it in full working order no glitches or hardware failures. Anyone has one please do drop me an email.

Well started college. Orientation week kinda boring so far lol. I have established that I have awesome lecturers and all of them heavily emphasize on the use of "English" especially my head of school.

Campus is huge, have to do alot of walking. Already kinda memorized my way around so I don't need to take the map out every 5 seconds or so like the other freshies :D. Classes only start next week. Still trying to adjust to waking early. And commuting is a bitch -.-" Well at least the canteen food is not bad and its cheap too!

Had an awesome time at Genting. Watched Bedtime Stories at midnight with my dear then walked around and then sat down at Coffee Bean and slept there for a couple of hours lol. Wokeup then decided to take cable car down and then a bus back home. Was tired as hell.

Well then came new year. Stayed overnight at KL Plaza apartment for the countdown. Didnt bother to go downstairs to celebrate with the massive crowd lol. More armpits o_o Already had an uber view at the apartment haha. Naw sadly my camera ran out of juice and I forgot to charge it.. so... no pikturs o_o. Got anonoyed 1 entire day by Sue's lil brother... lil kid o_o

Was so free yesterday night that me, Shaun and Justin went to have supper after a round of DotA at 1am in the morning. So Justin wanted to go to Bukit Pisang. After supper Shaun drove me back home to fetch my DSLR and tripod *I shall not make the mistake of shooting at night without a tripod ever again*. Parked once again at Jalan Pisang and hiked up to Bukit Pisang to the dead end and the house.

Got a call from Kok Yau at 10.30pm on Wednesday inviting me out for a night photography outing. Went to KL tower to shoot. I made a horrible mistake of not taking my tripod that day. Forgot that my shutter would be slow when I'm shooting at night lol. So because of lack of tripod I only have abit of nice pics =/.

After KL tower we wanted to go to Bintang Walk to shoot. But it was a Wednesday thus Bintang Walk wasnt as lively as we would like it. Scratched the plan. But on the way back to Taman Desa for supper, I saw something peculiar. LOL Kok Yau stopped the car and I went down to take a few quick snaps.

Geez and I thought that I had alot of freetime. LOL

!@#$%^& rain !@#$%^& cant play basketball because of the !@#$%^&* rain!! !@#$%^&* RAWRR!! !@#$%^&* can't go down to lake gardens to take photos because of the !@#$%^ rain!! And thanks to the !@#$%^ rain I only get to waste my brain cells in front of my !@#$% monitor. Because of the @#$%^ rain Astro got disruption. Because of the @#$%^& rain I cant get my bike back. Damn you tropical weathered country!! RAWRR @#$%#$%E#R$%!!!

LoL seriously ppl... bad weather everyday = = sat in the car 2 days ago for 2 and a half hours on a roadtrip around KL.. JUST to look for a basketball court. In the end came back to taman desa and makan at DDP = =. Then yesterday play ball for 10 minutes... then RAIN!! Seriously... everyone in heaven must have full bladders. Cant it just rain in the morning and leave the nights alone for me to play ball? Shit ass weather.

On the other hand... because we were gathered but no ball to play.. we just hopped into Sanjay's Avanza and go on a haunted roadtrip around KL xD. There was this house at Bukit Pisang... freaking spooky... not to mention we went in the dead of the night.. seriously spooky and it was raining... I was staring at the yard through the gap of the wooden barrier they set up and I saw something dash across the yard real quick.. It was just a split second.. too fast.. but definitely something was there... maybe a cat lol. But cats dont like water so what were they doing in the rain? When i exclaimed "HEY!! I saw something in the yard!!" Sanjay was like "Whoa its time to get outta here dude". After that we visited the graveyard near Kuen Cheng 2.. ok imagine this... a road with totally no lights... and graves are 1 metre away from your car on both sides.. not a sound could be heard.. not even crickets... Sanjay and Kok Yau were damn quiet.. driving in the rain through a graveyard with windows half opened xD and with Naveen saying that he saw birds with red eyes the last time he was here.

After that we headed to Jalan Turi at Bangsar for another haunted house... this one not as scary.. looks okay lol I wanted to go in but totally no place to park the car and cops were patrolling around the area. Headed to a nearby park after that to chow on our McD we got earlier from a drive-thru. While sitting down eating and talkin crap suddenly the dogs in the surrounding neighbourhood started howling... A few weeks back after ball game when Kok Yau was on the way home.. he heard somebody screamed, and the sound was right behind him. He pretended that nothing happened and continued driving while turning up the volume on his radio lol Luckily for him he was already near his home. The image of that house at Bukit Pisang is stuck in my mind... I ought to go back there one of these days to take a photo. Seriously spooky house. Planning trips to the abandoned hospital in Cheras and Highland Towers... supposedly haunted places. Will not forget to bring my DSLR this time :D

HDR - High Dynamic Range
You can create HDR image by combining number of digital photos taken with different exposure settings.
For best results, use tripod. Frame the scene and take 3 or more shots of the same scene. In each shot use different exposure. For example use -2EV, 0EV and +2EV. You can use auto-bracketing if your camera allows it.

p.s. - You'll love this Andie. Hope you have a tripod :P

ZOMGWTF!!! lol. In a dilemma.... Yes I have 3 months at NS in Kampung Hijrah, Penor, Kuantan, Pahang to think about it... NEED ADVICE!! from ppl in the same field xD. In the meantime.... the D3x.. Nikon's new monster is speculated to be released in July 2009... wtf 1 more year = =". Apparently a prototype has been released and been tested by someone... I dunno whether is real or fake.. there's even a D3h <<(the uber fast camera that shoots 11 frames per second) tested by the same person. And he claims those are prototypes. Search "d3x" on youtube to check it out. OKAY PPL PENTAX OR NIKON?? HELP ME!!! O_o and darn you Ally for not helping me buy camera in Singapore =P.

In memory of a Friend

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes ago I received news of my dear friend William Seetow's death in a car accident. Something like that just came up and whacked me right in the face. And to think that I was chatting with him 2 days ago on MSN. I dont know the details of the accident though.. I'll attend the wake. Rest in peace dearest friend for God has a higher purpose for you.

Yo all... Had quite a productive day today haha. Wokeup at 7 am went to Sanjay's house.. had breakfast, sat down and chat and gossiping about the editor of DCM about switching from Canon to Nikon (YES NIKON RULES). So what if the Cannon Mark III has more megapixels? Nikon's very own D3 beats the Mark III flat. Not to mention the upcoming D3x will put the rest out of business lol. I saw the Pentax k20d in DCM and John said I should get it. Considering it.. but the d-300 sounds and looks nicer=P. Met up with John at Bangsar Village in Starbucks. Waited for John's friend to arrive... HE HAD THE CRUMPLER BAG FOR CAMERAS!! Ok.. so with John armed with a D3, Sanjay with a D-300, John's friend (sorry forgot your name >.<) with a D-200 and me with a D-50 (woohoo all Nikon users) we all went down to FRIM to get a dose of nature shots =) (will upload later. need to put some watermarks). Shot for about 2 - 3 hours then headed over to The Curve for lunch. Ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp lol. GOOD FOOD!! AMERICAN SIZED!! Apparently the only Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant in the whole of Malaysia lol. Went home after that and fell dead on my bed. Woke up and then..... refer to upcoming post.

Hey people!! Aite a quick one before I hit the basketball court. Went down to Pudu this afternoon to get my 1970 Pentax k1000 SLR fixed. Store owner charged me RM 200 lol including lens cleaning (my 80-200mm) THAT'S HELLA CHEAP. Other shops will eat me RM 1500 - 2000. This guy obviously cares more about his customers then making money. A good man xD. Sanjay bought his equipment belt with lens pouches lol and got a seriously good discount. Met John down at the camera store and chit-chat with him awhile and looking at the wedding photos he shot for a couple. Brought Kok Yau down to the camera store also to look at Canon's SLR lenses. Me and Sanjay were coaxing Yau to buy a Nikon xD. In the end Yau came up with a plan : Sanjay, Kenny, Yau = SKY open our own freelancing blog. All buy Nikon. Pool money to buy lenses to share amongst the 3 of us. I LOVE THE IDEA!! lol. And the girl at the counter of the camera shop... is funny lol. Was watching her write down the receipt for my camera and she doesnt know the difference between a lens cap and a lens filter O_o . YOU PHAIL!! =P. And my lens... LoL if she were working at the camera store one look at my lens and you'll know that it is 80-200mm what other lens has that kind of length and cylindrical look huh? She kept turning my lens up and down searching for the numbers = =. I told her it was 80-200mm then she finally removed the lens cap and saw "80-200mm" behind the lens filter.... serious LoL. Saw a nice sling bag from Crumpler made for putting cameras.. NICE. Gonna get that too. Might buy a lens hood for my 80-200mm :) RAWRR...

Okay then off to basketball... next update in 3-4 hours time =P.

Okay I got back from ball and was dead tired so I didnt blog last night other then the short update :P. News from my front? Shit loads.

Okay... I QUIT MY JOB woohoo :D. Why? Yeah I mean it was nice and all with Guan and Koon around to joke around with BUT someone.. I wont say who... *not ur dad shuen dont worry ur dad's a nice guy* said something very mean <<<(understatement) to me. And to those that know me long enough you know that when reach my limit break just how bad my temper can be. Rawrr... long story short... treat me like shit and I'll do the same to you. So to those people that are using me now... dont think I dont know lol I'm just keeping quiet. And to those people that always FFK me in the last minute... I'm just keeping quiet. Those people that backstab... I know lol.. I'm just keeping quiet. AND James.... ur the biggest retard in the world. Thats the best I can call you since there are young readers visiting my webpage =P.

Bitter parts aside.... I'm my own boss now woohoo!! Freelance photography rules!! Partnering with Sanjay and learning the ropes from an established photo journalist John Ishii. Will buy my camera after I return from National service. Keat's Camera Services down at Pudu just gave me a nice discount on a Nikon D-300 woohoo!! Seriously Good place to buy gears for cameras and servicing. Nikon D3X coming out sometime soon O.O so now finally Nikon is taking the game to Hasselblad. I think the D3x will definitely best the Hasselblad H1. Not to mention Hasselblad is freaking heavy.

I'll be buying these babies after NS. Behold my future investment. Nikon D-300

Hey guys. Back!! lol. OK quick update before I go play ball.

I quit my job. (Didnt regret it)
I'm doing freelance photography. (Enjoying it)
I almost died of allergy attack. (I saw a bright light)
I just watched Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls 4 hours ago. (It rocks my socks!!)
I'm going off to National service soon. (Yay to that)
I'm getting a Nikon D-300 with external battery pack. (After NS :P)
Nikon D3x is gonna be released - 24.4 megapixels (o.o Serious shit!!)
June 14th's Basketball tournament is cancelled cuz of some construction work = = (SADDD).
I had the perfect team for the tournament. (Oh yes I did)
I had apparently got fatter. (Damn!!)
Skills in basketball getting worse over time (prolly due to the work before I left).
Jumps getting shorter. (Damn the fats and work :D)
Stamina getting less and less. (Time to train fulltime)
Shooting better though. (finnaleh found my form)
Gonna be building up my portfolio. (Anybody wanna model for me? :P)
My phone dropped into a drain full off water and food leftovers. (It was mamak food leftovers)
And my mom's getting married = =. (Screw this)

HELLO SCREWED UP LIFE!! <<< (woohoo)

Yea the time now is 12.05 am 11th April 2008. Just got back from work. Late night shoot of a job that came all the way from Kenya, Africa. Apparently the alcohol drinks in Kenya arent sold in cans. All sold in bottles instead. So with the launch of Canned Alcohol drinks in Kenya, our client Craig (came down from Kenya) came up with a few visuals for us to shoot. The cans will have to be bent in different directions and in different backgrounds / landscapes = ALOT OF WORK!!. Not to mention McDonalds sent in their new Happy Meal toys for us to shoot as well. McD material dateline.. next Monday. Genting Highlands aerial shoot coming up. Client wants a 360 degree shot of Genting Highlands from above. No idea how long that would take considering the weather in Malaysia is so unpredictable and even more drastic in the Highlands.

Still having some problems with shooting ants for PLUS Highway. Ish ish the ants move so fast that all my shots are out of focus O.O manual focus maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa what to do....?? And our client wants a shot of the ants moving in a straight line, each carrying something. Now if I only had the power to command ants lol.

Almost 2 months since my last entry proclaiming that I have moved blog. BUSY WITH WORK!! Jobs coming in like a monsoon flood lol. Doing overtime everyday and waking up at 4 am almost everyday. Even working on public holidays.

Well lets see... there was the general elections and the Pathways Basketball Tournament and the BMW shoot for Petronas Primax and the Mawi (yes the singer) for Walls ice-cream and the aerial shoot (yes I was in a chopper) for Northport and the shoot for Nestle Fitness Cereal at Putrajaya and more nightmare cigarette pack shoots from Marlboro, Samporna and L&M and got sunburned twice in a month during photoshoot lol. Rarely have time to shoot hoops with my buddies. WARGH!!!

February 23 2008 Team Unbeatable won the Pathways Basketball Tournament under the captainship of Kan Huey Ding aka Ding. The name Unbeatable suited us perfectly, 5 straight wins and 0 losses proves it. With the two 6 foot '4' as centers and 2 streetball players as forwards and me as point guard our play is nothing short of Unbeatable. Passes, alleyoops and especially the fast breaks were just uber!! Finished all the opponents for the big win. Ahh... first kill of the year xD.

Planning to join the Kenyir International Mountain Biking Challenge =/ Rargh... Need to change my bike tires and start training if thats the case.
